Welcome to BankrLaw
Online Resources for Bankruptcy Professionals
Offered by Professor Robert M. Lawless at the University of Illinois College of Law
By selecting a date in the form below, BankrLaw will return the text of the United States Bankruptcy Code for any date between January 1, 1980, and today. The United States Bankruptcy Code is codified at title 11 of the United States Code and has been amended numerous times since its original enactment.
A note about effective dates: This web site will return the text based on the effective date of amendments. As is true for many statutory laws, most amendments to the Bankruptcy Code become effective after the date of enactment. For example, Congress passed and the president signed a major amendment on July 10, 1984, but this amendment did not become effective until 90 days later (i.e., October 8, 1984). Thus, BankrLaw reflects this particular set of changes on October 8, 1984 and not before.
BankrLaw would not have been possible without a grant from the Endowment for Education of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges and the hard work of many contributors. Visit the contributors page for more information.
